A 53-year-old man has died after being struck by a car in Carlow in the early hours of this morning.

A 53-year-old man has died after being struck by a car in Carlow in the early hours of this morning.

This pedestrian died after being struck by a car on the Carlow to Abbeyleix Road.

Gardaí say it happened at Clonmore, Kileshin just before 1am on Saturday morning.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The road has now re-opened

Elsewhere gardaí in Mayo are appealing for witnesses to a single vehicle accident on Thursday which claimed the life of a 19-year-old man.

Rory Claxton from Carrowbeg Estate in Westport died when the car he was a passenger in hit a wall at Dooleague just before 10pm.

Anyone who travelled between the Halfway House and Westport that night is asked to contact the Gardaí at Castlebar.
