Dementia in older people will be the focus of a seminar in Dublin today to mark World Day of the Sick.

About 38,000 people in Ireland live with the debilitating condition.

The Dublin Archdiocese is organising “Conversations on Caring for People with Dementia attended by hospital chaplains, healthcare workers and families of those suffering from dementia.

The seminar in Whitehall is supported by the Alzheimer Society of Ireland who want the Government to recognise dementia as a national health priority.

In his message for World Day of the Sick, Pope Benedict XVI said he would remember the world’s people in his prayers.
