A Galway woman is appealing for help from the Government so she and her daughter can enter Egypt from the Gaza Strip.

Treasa Ni Cheannabhain, from Barna, illegally entered Gaza last week with her 19-year-old daughter and her Egyptian niece.

They made the trip to distribute money from the Galway-Palestinian Children's Fund to orphanages and hospitals.

However, they are now unable to get out of Gaza due to the Israeli-Egyptian blockade of the territory.

The Department of Foreign Affairs says it has been working with both Egyptian and Palestinian authorities to try to achieve a speedy resolution.
