Ahern: Special US deal for Irish immigrants 'difficult'

The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has told the Dáil that it would be "extremely difficult" to regularise the status of illegal Irish immigrants in the United States.

Irish-American groups have been seeking such a deal ever since the US Congress failed to agree on reforms that would have granted residency rights to illegal immigrants from around the world.
