Four killed in N7 pile-up

Four people were killed and another person seriously injured in a two-car crash today.

Gardaí said the incident happened at around 9.30am on the Borris-in-Ossery to Roscrea N7 road in Co Laois.

The road has been closed for crash scene investigators to carry out an examination.

A garda spokesman said: “Two cars were in collision resulting in the death of four people, two in each car. A front seat passenger in one of the cars was seriously injured.

“All involved were taken to Portlaoise Hospital,” he said.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to come forward and contact Abbeyleix Garda station, Laois.

Gardaí from Abbeyleix Station said the victims were three men and one woman.

The front seat passenger who suffered serious injuries was also male.

“We’re co-ordinating things here,” an officer said. We have no details as to what happened yet.“
