Taoiseach shrugs off adverse opinion poll findings

The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has shrugged off the latest opinion poll figures showing that a majority of voters do not believe his evidence to the Mahon Tribunal.

Just over half of respondents to a poll in the Sunday Business Report yesterday said they did not believe his evidence, while 46% said they did not trust him to run the country.

However, questioned about the findings today, Mr. Ahern said he didn't read the figures that way.

He also insisted that the only allegation against him was that he received money from property developer Owen O'Callaghan and this was not true.e
