Elderly attack victim dies in hospital

Police in the North have launched a murder inquiry after a 71-year-old man who was savagely beaten died in Lurgan hospital last night.

Francis Lyttle, known to friends and family as Gerry, received serious head injures in a vicious attack in the Churchill Park area of Portadown on November 1.

A 17-year-old youth appeared in court charged with attempted murder following the attack.

A post mortem examination will be carried out before a decision is taken on whether to amend the charges.
