Traffic diverted in Dublin City centre as building demolition continues

Traffic remains diverted away from streets in the vicinity of the North Circular Road in Dublin this morning as demolition on a dangerous building continues.

The former Inter-tool shop is being razed after building experts predicted on Friday that it could collapse after the building began moving.

Demolition crews are continuing to bring down the building which is located on the corner of North Circular Road and Russell Street.

As a result, traffic has been diverted away from the area with Fiztgibbon Street closed to the top of Mountjoy Square

North Circular road junction with North Great Georges Street traffic is being diverted at this point and no traffic is being permitted towards Gills Corner.

Gardaí will also remain on point duty to prevent vehicles proceeding beyond Russell Street Bridge.

The brick-by-brick removal of the derelict building is expected to be completed by around 3pm this afternoon however, gardaí are asking people to avoid the area today if possible.
