Reform Treaty supporters fail to gain majority needed for Green Party support

The results Green Party vote on the EU Reform Treaty have been announced.

Out of the 319 ballots used, 315 votes were cast, with 195 votes in favour of Motion A (to back the treaty) and 117 against – a 63% majority.

However, the Green Party constitution requires a two-thirds (66.6%) majority to support the motion, meaning that there is no constitutional mandate to accept it.

A large majority of members voted to abandon the third, technical motion, which sought to clarify the result for the party's ministers and members, on grounds that it was unnecessary.
