Psychiatrist cleared of daughter's murder

A psychiatrist who drowned her daughter in a bath over an obsession that the teenager was anorexic was cleared today of her murder.

A jury took just 21 minutes to find that Lynn Gibbs was not guilty of murder by reason of insanity.

Gibbs admitted intending to kill her 16-year-old daughter Ciara at their home but denied murder on grounds of insanity.

The 47-year-old, from Killure, Co Kilkenny, was committed back to the Central Mental Hospital for further treatment.
