O'Donoghue criticises media coverage of Oireachtas
The Ceann Comhairle of the Dáil, John O'Donoghue, has launched an unexpected attack on the Irish media during a speech at a function in Dublin today.
Speaking to the Association of European Journalists, the Fianna Fáil TD suggested that the demands of daily journalism may be leading to a trivialisation of politics.
He asked if changes could be introduced to make the work of the Oireachtas more understandable and more open to media coverage without compromising its seriousness.
He also said the Houses of the Oireachtas were planning to set up a system to better inform journalists and the public about the workings of the parliament.
