SF criticises PSNI response to collapse of Omagh trial

Sinn Féin has criticised the police response to the collapse of the trial of south Armagh man Sean Hoey over the 1998 Omagh bombing.

The trial judge concluded two officers had lied to the court under instructions from senior PSNI officers.

Mr Hoey was acquitted on all charges.

Sinn Féin says Mr Orde's response - that he would have done nothing differently - is totally unacceptable.

The party says action should be taken now against the two officers who lied, instead of waiting for the outcome of a Police Ombudsman's report.

Sinn Féin also called for disciplinary action to be taken against the officers who instructed them to lie.
