Youth group welcomes vow to tackle cheap alcohol sales
Youth Work Ireland is welcoming Government promises to tackle the price and availability of alcohol.
It says it hopes a promise from the Minister for Justice Brian Lenihan to address the issue will lead to a clampdown on the sale of cheap drink in supermarkets.
However, the group says the Government's record on implementing the recommendations of its own task force on alcohol has been poor so far.
Spokesman Michael McLoughlin says ministers need to stand up to the drinks industry rather than adopting the current approach of self-regulation.
