GOAL to evacuate staff amid rising Kenyan violence

The Irish aid agency GOAL is evacuating its staff from the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, amid escalating ethnic violence in the country.

At least 275 people have died during four days of rioting prompted by the re-election of President Mwai Kibaki after a vote that critics say was rigged.

Tens of thousands of people have also been forced to flee their homes.

GOAL says it fears the situation may deteriorate over the coming days and has decided to evacuate its nine staff members, including one Irish aid worker.
