Man killed in Westmeath crash

A man was killed today in a two-car crash, the Gardaí have said.

The crash took place at about 6am near The Covert, Mullingar, Co Westmeath.

Gardaí said the road was sealed off and is expected to remain closed for a number of hours. Diversions have been put in place.

A spokesman said: “He was the sole occupant of one of the vehicles and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Gardaí are asking any witnesses to contact them at Granard garda station.”
