Man due before court in connection with Garda stabbing

A man is due before a special sitting of Cavan District Court this evening in relation to an attack on two gardaí last night.

The 39-year-old was arrested after the gardaí were stabbed while responding to a domestic dispute.

According to the Gardaí the two members of the force were attacked with a knife while responding to a domestic dispute at a house in Dungimmon, Mount Nugent at about 8pm yesterday evening.

One of the gardaí sustained stab wounds to his thigh and was taken to Cavan General hospital, but was later released.

The other garda is still being treated for stab wounds he sustained to his abdomen.

The injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The 39-year-old man will appear before a special sitting of Cavan District Court this evening.
