A ruling is expected this morning in the challenge by two consultant obstetricians to findings of professional misconduct inquiry against them by the Medical Council.

The inquiry concerned their reports on Dr Michael Neary, who was struck off for performing unnecessary hysterectomies.

Professor Walter Prendiville of South Circular Road and Dr John Murphy of the Blackrock Clinic produced reports opposing the Neary's suspension.

They were asked to review files on a number of Neary's patients at the Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

They contend that the council did not provide reasons for the findings against them and that it acted unlawfully and unfairly.
