Gardaí have recovered a firearm from the scene of last night’s fatal stabbing in the Walkinstown area of Dublin.

A man in his early 30s was killed in the incident, in a laneway off Beechfield Road, at around 9pm.

He was rushed to St James’ Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Gardaí, who have launched a murder investigation, confirmed today that they found a firearm at the scene.

“We cannot determine yet what type of firearm was recovered,” a Garda spokesman said.

Detectives have not yet established a motive for the attack but believe it was not gangland-related.

Officers today made an appeal for witnesses or other information in relation to the attack.
