Party to toast Ahern's election treble

The Taoiseach’s three-in-a-row general election success will be toasted at a special Fianna Fáil party event in Dublin tonight.

Bertie Ahern will be guest of honour at the annual Cairde Fail fundraising dinner at the City West Hotel.

“The event will celebrate the Taoiseach’s leadership in winning three consecutive terms in government,” said a spokesperson.

Up to 2,000 people are expected to attend the dinner including the party’s TDs, Senators, MEPs and local authority members.

Hundreds of party supporters will also be present to hear Mr Ahern deliver a keynote address on party policy.

Mr Ahern has endured a stormy third term in office with revelations from the Mahon Tribunal and controversy over Cabinet pay rises. He survived a no-confidence vote in the Dail in September.
