Hayes kicked out of Hanafin's press briefing

Fine Gael TD Brian Hayes has been ejected from a press briefing being held by Minister for Education Mary Hanafin this morning.

Ms Hanafin was hosting the briefing to give details of her department's spending plans following yesterday's budget.

Mr Hayes, the Fine Gael spokesperson on education, turned up for the press conference, but the Department of Education refused to go ahead with the event until he agreed to leave.

Department officials said the meeting was only for members of the media, but Mr Hayes accused the minister of acting in a childish manner.
