Cowen set to deliver tightest budget in years

Minister for Finance Brian Cowen is set to deliver his tightest budget since he took over the job following a significant deterioration in the public finances this year.

Mr Cowen is facing a €1.7bn exchequer deficit for 2007, over €1bn more than predicted last year.
