Body found in Clare lake by fisherman

A body was pulled from a lake today after a local fisherman alerted gardaí.

The remains, which may have been in the water for some time, were found on Lough Bridget, near Tulla in Co Clare.

The fisherman called in gardaí yesterday after spotting something suspicious in the water.

Local gardaí carried out an initial search but returned to the lake at first light along with the Garda Water Unit to continue searching.

The body was discovered and removed to Limerick Regional Hospital and the State Pathologist Professor Marie Cassidy has been called in.

Gardaí said it is not known whether the remains are of a man or woman.

Searches were continuing in the area and the scene is being preserved for a technical examination.

Gardaí at Killaloe are investigating.
