People who are recently bereaved get more comfort from their pets than they do from their priest.

A new study by Dublin's Beaumont Hospital reveals that those who lose a loved one say their pet was more useful to them than any spiritual advisor.

Family-members came out on top as being the greatest comfort following a death, and one quarter of people said friends are also helpful.
