HSE to begin contacting women about new tests
The HSE is due to begin making contact today with the latest women facing a new examination due to the breast cancer misdiagnosis scandal at Portlaoise Hospital.
Yesterday, the organisation revealed that at least 97 more women are being recalled for examination due to concerns about their ultrasound tests.
The tests are being reviewed following the revelation that at least nine women were wrongly given the all-clear for breast cancer after undergoing mammograms in Portlaoise.
Minister for Health Mary Harney has dismissed calls for her to resign over the scandal and the fact that none of the affected women were contacted before yesterday's revelation.
