Man shot and left for dead in Donegal
A man in his late 20s was in a critical condition in hospital today after being shot and left for dead.
The man was found with gunshot wounds at around 2am in a remote part of Donegal, around 20 miles from Letterkenny.
He was found shot and left for dead in mountains in Glenveagh National Park.
Gardaí said the man was taken to Letterkenny General Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery this morning.
He is due to be transferred to the Mater Hospital in Dublin.
The injured man, apparently dumped in the remote and wild Glendonan area of the Derryveagh Mountains, outside Churchill, had been shot in the side but managed to make his way to an isolated house.
An elderly man living there brought him to a local taxi driver who drove him to hospital.
Dessie McMonagle, a Sinn Féin councillor and member of the Letterkenny Joint Policing Partnership, said the gun attack was very worrying.
“It’s a very strange shooting to say the least. It’s not a normal occurrence in this area, in the early hours of the morning, someone being shot in a very rural area of Donegal that doesn’t come from there,” he said.
