Two seriously hurt in N4 head-on collision

Two people have been seriously injured in a crash on the N4.

They were among nine people who were rushed to hospital in Mullingar following a two-car, head-on collision near Ballinalack on the Longford-Westmeath border.

The accident happened just after 3pm today on the main Sligo to Dublin road.

It caused major delays for a time but part of the road has now re-opened.

Gardaí are at the scene directing traffic.
