Gardaí will enforce law on unaccompanied drivers

The Tánaiste and Minister of Finance, Brian Cowen has defended the decision to call for Garda discretion in implementing new laws for provisional license holders.

It follows a statement from the Gardaí saying that they will enforce the law and prosecute all unaccompanied drivers on a second provisional license.

Transport Minister Noel Dempsey has confirmed that despite the inconvenience to learner drivers, the controversial new legislation will come into effect from Tuesday.
