Mary Harney to open new children's MRI unit

Minister for Health Mary Harney will officially open the new children’s MRI Unit today at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin.

Funded at a cost of almost €7m by the HSE and the Department of Health and Children, the children’s MRI facility has state of the art equipment and post and pre-scan practices designed around the relaxation and comfort of the child.

These include a child-friendly anaesthetic room and artwork that has been designed to calm the children as they enter the MRI Department to undergo their scan.

Children are now able to watch their favourite DVD during their examination as a DVD player is incorporated into the MRI scanner.

The opening will take place at 11am.
