Irish Rail services to run as normal in south-west

Rail services in the south-west of the country are set to run as normal this morning following a last-minute resolution to a dispute over work practices.

Line inspection and maintenance staff attaches to SIPTU and the NBRU had threatened to take industrial action in Cork, Kerry and Limerick this morning as part of the dispute.

However, they and Iarnród Eireann have both accepted a document produced by the Labour Relations Commission that will see the case being heard by the Labour Court next week.

The threat of disruption had arisen due to what the unions say was the increased use of outside contractors rather than SIPTU and NBRU members.
