Remission to end for dangerous offenders in North
The Northern Executive has announced plans to end the 50% remission on prison sentences for serious sexual and violent offences.
First Minister Ian Paisley says legislation will be produced within three months and the change will come into force next year.
The move follows the re-arrest this morning of a rapist who was freed after serving half of a 16-year sentence for an attack on a pensioner in January 1999.
Eamon Foley, who raped Mary Ann McLoughlin near Enniskillen in Co Fermanagh, was rearrested on the grounds that he poses a continuing danger to the public.
