Shannon campaigners seek Govt intervention u-turn

Campaigners in the mid-west say BMI's decision not to take over the Shannon to Heathrow route is a blow to the region.

BMI had been in talks about the possibility of taking over the route being scrapped by Aer Lingus.

However, reports this morning say the discussions have come to nothing.

The Government may reportedly have been aware of the decision before last week's heated Dáil debate on the matter, but Minister for Transport Noel Dempsey says he only learned of the news yesterday.

The Atlantic Connectivity Alliance is now calling on the Government to reverse its decision not to intervene in the situation as a 25% shareholder in Aer Lingus.
