Expert warns about ongoing risk of e.coli outbreaks

A leading disease expert has warned that further outbreaks of e.coli are inevitable unless more rigorous hygiene standards are enforced.

Professor Hugh Pennington says the authorities need to ensure that guidelines are rigorously implemented.

He will outline his concerns at a conference in Dublin today.

Prof Pennington chaired an inquiry into an e.coli outbreak that claimed 17 lives in Scotland 11 years ago.
