Wanted British sex offender arrested in Co Kildare

One of Britain's most wanted child sex offenders has been arrested in Ireland.

Thirty-nine-year-old John Murrell had been on the run for more than seven years along with his wife and five children.

He was supposed to register with police after being released from prison in September 2000 following a conviction for indecently assaulting a child.

Mr Murrell featured in numerous public appeals and the British police confirmed today that he was detained by gardaí in Co Kildare last Friday.
