Taoiseach Bertie Ahern today rejected claims that a failed no-confidence motion in him had weakened his grip on power.

The Government defeated the first ever Dáil sanction to Mr Ahern’s leadership by 81 votes to 76 after a sometimes heated three-and-a-half hour debate.
