A specially commissioned bust of the late Minister for External Affairs Frank Aiken will be unveiled at the Department of Foreign Affairs today.
The design will be put on display in Iveagh House by Foreign Minister Dermot Ahern.
Members of the late Mr Aiken’s family will be present.
Frank Aiken had a distinguished 50-year political career and served as Minister for External Affairs between 1951-1954 and 1957-1969.
He was highly regarded for championing the cause of small countries at the United Nations and was a chief proponent of nuclear non-proliferation.
He was the first minister to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty in 1968.
