Govt under fire over low level of education spending
The Government is coming under further fire today over Ireland's low level of spending on education.
The latest OECD assessment puts Ireland at the bottom of a league of 29 countries when it comes to spending on secondary schools.
Ireland's educational spending has increased by more than 70% in the past 10 years, but the increase has not been enough to bring Ireland up to the same standard as other OECD countries.
The Association of Secondary Teachers says recent improvements are welcome, but the OECD figures show that Ireland needs to spend more of its new-found wealth on education.
