The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that at least one Irish person is unaccounted for following yesterday's plane crash in Thailand.

Irish consular officials in Phuket are looking into the whereabouts of the missing passenger, who was among at least four Irish people caught up in the crash.

The other three survived and are being treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

A total of 88 people lost their lives when the aircraft crashed while trying to land in Phuket during a heavy rainstorm.

One hundred and thirty people were on board, the majority of them western holidaymakers.
