Dublin City Council has reportedly voted overwhelmingly against allowing limousines and hackney cabs to use the city's bus lanes.

The Commission for Taxi Regulation has asked the Department of Transport to sanction the move, saying it is unfair to ban such vehicles from bus lanes.

However, councillors say it would be deeply unpopular with the ordinary driving public.
