Govt urged to reinstate foot-and-mouth safety measures

The Irish Farmers Association is calling on the Government to reinstate the bio-security measures imposed after the recent outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Britain.

The call follows another suspected outbreak just 30 miles from the two Surrey farms affected in July and August.

The European Commission has already halted plans to resume meat exports from Britain following the news.

The IFA says Irish farmers are willing to co-operate with any measures deemed necessary to ensure the disease does not get into Ireland.
