Gardaí are still questioning a 31 year-old man at Ballyfermot Garda Station following a stabbing incident early this morning.

One man has died and another man is in a critical condition at St James' Hospital following the incident.

The incident happened at Cedarwood Walk in Ballyfermot at about six o'clock this morning.

The man who died was 28 years old.

Another man is in a critical condition after undergoing surgery in St James' Hospital. A 31-year-old man is still being questioned in connection with the stabbing in West Dublin.

He was arrested at the scene and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. Forensic experts continue to examine the scene, which has been sealed off.

A post mortem on the dead man is expected to take place later today.
