Man questioned in connection with cannabis haul

A man was being quizzed tonight in connection with the seizure of €216,000 of herbal cannabis at Dublin Airport.

The 35-year-old South African was arrested after customs officers found 18kg of the drug.

The find was made by drugs dog Thatcher, who indicated that the passenger, who had arrived on a flight from Johannesburg via Zurich, was carrying the substance.

When customs officers examined his suitcase they found it packed with cannabis.

The suspect is being detained at Santry Garda Station while investigations continue.
