The prime minister of Iceland is to pay an official visit to Ireland next week.

Geir Haarde and his wife Inga Jona Poroardottir are expected to meet the Taoiseach and pay a courtesy visit to the President during the short trip.

A reception will also be held in their honour at the National Museum of Ireland on September 13.

Mr Haarde paid a five-day visit to Scotland last month. Iceland does not have an embassy in Ireland but diplomatic representation is handled from London.

Icelandic singer Bjork played at the Electric Picnic festival in Co Laois on Saturday night.
