More meetings on Aer Lingus decision

More meetings are being held today as part of the on-going campaign to reverse Aer Lingus' decision to end its Shannon-to-Heathrow services.

Representatives from 11 local authorities in the west of the country are meeting to discuss a campaign of action to save the Heathrow slots and to ensure the local economy does not suffer.

The Mayor of Clare, Patricia McCarthy, says she wants local politicians to seek a meeting with the inter-departmental committee set up to examine the implications of the Aer Lingus decision for Shannon.

Meanwhile, a Sinn Féin delegation is also travelling to Shannon today to meet the local action group opposing the Aer Lingus decision.

The party is accusing successive governments of neglecting the mid-west.
