Gilmore confirms candidacy for Labour leadership
Dun Laoghaire TD Eamon Gilmore has confirmed his intention to run for the leadership of the Labour Party.
Mr Gilmore is currently the party's environment spokesman and is regarded as the favourite to succeed Pat Rabbitte, who resigned last week.
He is the first candidate to formally throw his hat in the ring for the top job.
He also contested the last leadership contest, but lost out to Mr Rabbitte at the time.
Mr Gilmore says he will be looking for a mandate from Labour party members around the country to lead the party's renewal.
To do that, he says, Labour needs to reassert its core values as the most relevant guiding principles in the modern Ireland.
