Two held after huge cannabis haul

Two men were arrested today after a multi-agency cross-border investigation uncovered half a million euro worth of cannabis smuggled into the country.

The massive drugs haul in the Irish-speaking area of Falcarragh in Co Donegal follows a surveillance operation by gardai and Customs officials.

The 50kg stash of herbal cannabis was intercepted at Dublin Airport despite being hidden inside an air courier consignment marked “computer parts”.

The authorities, including the Garda National Drug Unit, followed the delivery to an address in Co Donegal where they seized the drugs.

Two men from the North were arrested at Falcarragh and are being held at Letterkenny Garda Station.

Gardaí and Customs contacted their counterparts in the North, the PSNI and HM Revenue and Customs, and searches were carried out on both sides of the border.
