Rose of Tralee contestants line up

The 48th Rose of Tralee International Festival begins today in Co Kerry.

A total of 31 contestants are representing parts of Ireland, Australia, Canada, Britain, Europe and the US.

The girls will be interviewed by broadcaster Ray D’Arcy before a large TV audience next week.

This year’s Festival features a Gala Rose Ball, a Rose Parade, a Fashion Show, live firework displays and marching bands.

The event first began in Tralee in 1959 with just five contestants.
