The Dublin-based airline CityJet has confirmed that it is considering the possibility of beginning a new service from Shannon Airport to Paris.

In a statement this morning, the company said it was prepared to visit the airport to see if there was scope to establish a service to the French capital.

CityJet is a subsidiary of Air France and currently runs flights from Dublin to London and Paris.

A new service from Shannon to Paris would be a major boost for the Co Clare airport in the wake of last week's decision by Aer Lingus to end its Shannon to Heathrow route.

Meanwhile, a delegation of tourism bodies from the mid-west is beginning a five-day trip to the US today in an effort to promote Shannon as a gateway to Ireland.
