Water pipes revamp begins

Five months of works on water pipes in the Merrion and Sandymount areas of Dublin begin today.

Five months of works on water pipes in the Merrion and Sandymount areas of Dublin begin today.

The project is part of the €118m programme across Dublin city and county to replace around 280km (175 miles) of old cast-iron water mains.

A number of householders in the areas will experience water shut offs for a number of days over the period, according to authorities.

“We are carrying out this work in several small sections in order to cause the least possible impact on householders, businesses and commuters,” said Tom Leahy, deputy city engineer of Dublin City Council.

“There will be local traffic lane restrictions to allow traffic to get safely around the works area.”
