An inquiry is underway in the North to establish why an airplane sank into tarmac on a runway at the City of Derry Airport.

An inquiry is underway in the North to establish why an airplane sank into tarmac on a runway at the City of Derry Airport.

The incident is the latest embarrassing development at the airport, which was closed for several days recently due to safety fears.

Yesterday, a plane arriving from Spain with 180 passengers sank into the tarmac after being told to wait on a remote runway before taxiing to the terminal.

The passengers were asked to leave the aircraft and it was eventually able to move itself forward.

Earlier this year, the Civil Aviation Authority ordered the closure of the airport for a number of reasons, including runway subsidence.
