More Shannon jobs at risk following Aer Lingus decision
More jobs in the Shannon area could be at risk as a result of Aer Lingus's decision to scrap services to Heathrow from the Co Clare airport.
The decision is likely to affect up to 45 Aer Lingus workers at Shannon, but the airline is promising to minimise the effects of the move.
However, several other companies in the region will also suffer due to the loss of Heathrow services and one firm employing 600 people has already raised fears for its future.
Element 6, formerly known as De Beers Industrial Diamond Division, has been based at Shannon for more than 45 years.
It says it routes 90% of its business through Heathrow and the Aer Lingus decision will have serious implications for its future operations.
